Hypothalamus Hunt is an educational location-based AR game developed in conjunction with the University of St Andrews for iOS and Android devices. The game was used by St Andrews University to engage with young children at Schools and Science Festivals throughout the UK.
Teaching about the HPA Axis and stress comes across as inherently complex. We created Hypothalamus Hunt to simplify these concepts into a form that was easily understandable and recognisable by its target age group.
We helped St Andrews to gamify these complex ideas of stress and come up with a solution that not only brought across the educational messages they wanted to convey but was also simple, engaging and fun.
LOCATION BASED AR
Hypothalamus Hunt takes advantage of GPS location services to provide an extra layer of engagement. It allowed St Andrews to create 'stations' around the Science Festivals they were attending. Each station would be set up to correspond with the in-game learning objectives and players would move from station to station, learning as they play.
The game allowed for users to create their own custom characters and use a GPS map on their device to travel to each station all while playing games and finding more about how stress affects them and their bodies.
